Let's see what you qualify for

Why so many buyers skip the exam now

Accelerated underwriting is the single biggest change in the life insurance buying process in decades. Here is what actually changed and what it means for you.

Data replaced the needle

Carriers now lean on prescription databases, motor vehicle records, and medical history databases to price risk. For a large share of healthy applicants, that data is enough to make an offer without ever drawing blood.

Speed changed everything

A traditional fully underwritten case routinely takes four to eight weeks, because someone has to schedule a paramedical exam and then chase down your medical records. An accelerated case can be decided before you finish your coffee.

Eligibility is carrier specific

Every carrier publishes its own age bands, face amount ceilings, and knockout conditions. One carrier's automatic decline is another carrier's standard offer. That is why shopping the program matters more than shopping the rate.

We track 8 exam free and accelerated programs across 8 carriers whose program terms are published by the carrier itself. Carriers change age bands and face ceilings often, and we last confirmed these terms on September 11, 2026. We check current limits with the carrier before every application.

No exam life insurance questions, answered

What is no exam life insurance?+

It is life insurance where the carrier makes an underwriting decision using data instead of a medical exam. Instead of ordering blood work, vitals, and a paramedical exam, the carrier pulls prescription history, motor vehicle records, and database checks, then decides. Many carriers still ask a short medical questionnaire or a phone interview, but the needle, the lab draw, and the visiting examiner are removed.

Do I really avoid the medical exam?+

Under the fully accelerated programs, yes. Some carriers do still require a tele-interview, which is a short phone call with a nurse. A few programs ask for labs only when your age or face amount pushes you outside the automated path. If the carrier determines you need an exam, that happens before a policy is issued and your representative will tell you up front.

What ages qualify for no exam coverage?+

It depends on the carrier. The programs we track generally start at age 17 to 20 and run to age 60, with several carriers extending to age 65 to 70 at reduced face amounts. Above age 60 the maximum coverage typically drops sharply, and full underwriting usually applies for larger amounts.

How much coverage can I get without an exam?+

Common ceilings are $1 million to $3 million. Several carriers go higher for younger applicants, up to $5 million, and a small number will consider more on a fluidless basis when you have had a recent physical. Above roughly $3 million, labs or an exam become more likely regardless of the program.

Does a health condition disqualify me?+

Not automatically. Each program has its own knockout list, and conditions that remove you from one carrier's automated path are often acceptable to another. Well controlled blood pressure, cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes are frequently approved without an exam. The honest answer is that eligibility is carrier specific, which is exactly what this check is for.

How fast is approval?+

With the fastest programs, a decision can come back in minutes and occasionally within the same hour. Most accelerated cases land within a few business days, and a handful take up to about five. Compare that to traditional underwriting, which commonly runs four to eight weeks because of exam scheduling and medical record retrieval.

Does no exam coverage cost more?+

Not necessarily. Pricing is set by the risk class you are placed in, not by whether an exam was ordered. A healthy applicant who qualifies for a top rate class typically pays the same whether the carrier ordered an exam or not. Where cost can rise is if the data driven review places you in a lower class than an exam would have.

Is this an approval or a quote?+

Neither. This page is an educational eligibility preview based on published carrier program rules. It is not an application, it is not a quote, and it is not a decision. Only the insurance carrier can approve coverage, and only after a completed application. Rates and program rules also change, so an agent confirms everything against the current carrier guidelines before you apply.

This page is educational and is not an application, an offer of insurance, a quote, or a guarantee of coverage. Eligibility results are an estimate based on published carrier program guidelines, which change without notice. Availability, age bands, and face amount limits vary by carrier, product, and state, and New York has separate product approvals. Final underwriting decisions, risk classification, and premiums are determined solely by the issuing insurance carrier after a completed application.
